Increase Link PopularityLink popularity refers to the number of sites linking to
your site. Having high quality and relevant incoming links can contribute to higher search engine rankings.
Note: Refer to the Google PageRank Algorithm and How It works for more information regarding the value of PageRank.
There are many ways to increase link popularity. Here are some:
* Get one-way links from submitting articles to article directories
* Submit comments to blogs that do not use the NoFollow attribute
* Publish great content that other webmasters will post a link to
* Exchange reciprocal links with complimentary sites
* Submit your site / blog to website or blog directories
Important! Avoid link schemes! According to Google the following practices are examples of link schemes and "can negatively impact your site's
ranking in search results":
- Links intended to manipulate PageRank
- Links to web spammers or bad neighborhoods on the web
- Excessive reciprocal links or excessive link exchanging ("Link to me and I'll link to you.")
- Buying or selling links that pass PageRank
Refer to Google's Webmaster Help Center for more details.
Online Link Popularity Check
Use the following free tool for an online link popularity check:
In principle, incoming links should be from relevant and quality sites - Links from relevant
sites with a high Google PageRank carries a lot more weight that links from sites with a low Google PageRank.
A common question is "What if a 'bad' site links to me. Will this have a negative impact on my site?" The answer is No. Google understands that
you cannot control sites linking to you, unless you are participating in a link scheme. They have ways to determine unnatural links! What is
important though is that you do not link to 'bad' sites!
Trying to increase link popularity by participating in schemes is not worth it.
